Wild turkeys live in every state except Alaska, so the bigger question is which subspecies to chase.
| Subspecies | Good States to Start |
|---|---|
| Eastern | Most eastern and midwestern states |
| Rio Grande | Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas |
| Merriam’s | Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota |
| Osceola | Florida only |
| Gould’s | Arizona and New Mexico |
Chasing the Grand Slam
The Grand Slam is an Eastern, Osceola, Rio Grande and Merriam’s. Florida is the only place to take an Osceola, so many slams are planned around a Florida hunt.
